On Monday, July 11, Sundrop Fuels Inc. announced that Chesapeake Energy Company will invest $155 million in the company, allowing it to build a facility that will demonstrate the new "green gasoline" Sundrop has developed.
The process involves an ultra-high temperature heat transfer, which gassifies cellulose into synthetic gas that can be converted into clean, biobased "green gasoline." The fuel could be used for automobiles, aircraft and diesel engines through the current fuel-distributing facilities.
The company has developed the RP Reactor, which uses radiant particle technology to gassify particles 20 times faster than competing technologies.
The first commerial-scale biorefinery will begin its construction in 2012 and will produce more than 40 million gallons of fuel per year by 2016.
Chesapeake Energy Company invested the money to help curb America's dependence on OPEC.
"We are excited to be a part of bringing this ground-breaking technology to market. The combination of Sundrop Fuels' advanced technology and Chesapeake's proven execution capabilities is a tremendous partnership," Aubrey K. McClendon, Chesapeake's Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement.
