AEP Ohio recently signed a contract to purchase electricity from a solar power field in Noble County, Ohio, which will reportedly be the largest in the state, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
The news source reports that the solar field, which will be constructed by 2015, will generate nearly 50 megawatts of power. The project will reportedly be constructed on 750 acres of land that was previously used for mining coal, according to the news provider.
The project is expected to create hundreds of new permanent jobs and temporary construction jobs and AEP plans to invest $20 million in the solar field.
"When we originally announced this project last year, we were proud to play an instrumental role in helping bring new jobs to Ohio while advancing renewable energy technologies in the Midwest," Joe Hamrock, president and chief operating officer of AEP Ohio, said in a statement. "Today, that pride continues as we move a significant step closer to bringing this project on line."
According to the Coshocton Tribune, approximately 250,000 photovoltaic panels will be needed in the construction of the solar field.
