Pennsylvania recently celebrated the opening of its first solar-powered Goodwill store in Robinson Township. Opened on January 25, the store is the 30th created by Goodwill Industries International in the region.
“It’s a complete prototype store and, for us, it has it all – a super-green shopping atmosphere that our treasure-hunting customers are sure to enjoy, a great location right in the heart of a premier retail center, and a leading-edge, cost-saving, solar energy system that embodies Goodwill’s long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility," said Michael J. Smith, president and CEO of Goodwill.
Pennsylvania's only NASCAR team, Peck Motorsports, has made a commitment to greener energy, as well. The team's hauler is currently being outfitted to run on bio-diesel fuel, and is switching over to LED lighting.
"Peck Motorsport's decision to use solar powered generators this season is a great example of the type of technology we hope to see used by teams in the coming seasons," said NASCAR's managing director of green innovation, Mike Lynch. "NASCAR is working to bring new and impressive technology that compounds to cut down energy in a cutting-edge way."
