The installation of solar panels at Speedway Motorsports Inc.'s Infineon Raceway in California's Sonoma Valley has been completed by Panasonic Corp. of North America.
The more than 1,650 solar panels are expected to supply approximately 41 percent of the track's energy, according to the Charlotte Business Journal. Panasonic has also reportedly installed an LED display board for offering information to motorists, the news source said.
Speedway Motorsports, which is based in Concord, North Carolina, is the owner and operator of eight different stock-car tracks, according to the news provider.
Steve Page, the general manager and president of Infineon Raceway, explained that the new green energy upgrades made to the track are part of its latest sustainability initiative.
"The installation of Panasonic’s high-efficiency solar panels and board is a major milestone in Infineon Raceway’s accelerating sustainable-performance program," Page said. "We’re honored to be teaming with Panasonic as our visionary partner in this significant venture."
According to a release, the installed solar panels are expected to generate a total of 353 kilowatts of power.
