Facebook and Greenpeace recently announced they will team up to improve the popular social network's renewable energy efforts.
The two organizations issued a joint statement that didn't detail specific plans for increasing Facebook's green energy efforts, but the statement did say that the social network will begin enforcing a new policy to foster clean and renewable sources of energy for its data centers.
Greenpeace criticized the social networking giant recently for using coal to power its large data centers, which spurred the current partnership.
"Facebook is committed to supporting the development of clean and renewable sources of energy, and our goal is to power all of our operations with clean and renewable energy," the statement read. "Building on our leadership in energy efficiency (through the Open Compute Project), we are working in partnership with Greenpeace and others to create a world that is highly efficient and powered by clean and renewable energy."
Facebook also recently launched "Green on Facebook," which is an initiative to build one of the most energy efficient computing infrastructures in the world, at a low cost.
Facebook has more than 800 million active users, according to the website.
