According to a recently released report from Environment California, an environmental advocacy group, San Diego leads the state in the number of solar installations.
With nearly 37 megawatts installed on more than 4,500 homes and commercial and government buildings, the city leads California, with Los Angeles ranking second with 36 megawatts installed and more than 4,000 installations, and San Jose ranking third with 31 megawatts and more than 2,700 installations.
"From Fresno to San Francisco and Clovis to Culver City, solar power is becoming a mainstream technology throughout California," said Michelle Kinman, co-author of "California's Solar Cities 2012: Leaders in the Race Toward a Clean Energy Future." "Solar power is booming in California and with the right leadership we can continue to benefit from the cleaner air and local jobs that this industry inevitably brings."
The report revealed that solar energy is making a major impact, considering one megawatt is enough to power 750 to 1,000 homes.
The San Diego Medical Center recently decide to make a green energy choice, changing to solar power, which will produce a quarter of the hospital's annual power supply.
