The town of Melrose, Massachusetts, is currently considering a green energy initiative involving the implementation of a wind turbine near the 13th hole of the Mount Hood Golf Course in the town, reports the Boston Globe.
According to the news source, an open house welcoming town residents has been planned to give people an opportunity to learn more about the potential wind energy project, which is being examined by the city's Park Department and Energy Commission.
David Shakespeare, a member of the commission, told the news provider that before the project can be approved, a feasibility study needs to be performed.
"The study will [determine] if there is enough wind on Mount Hood, what the access to the site is," Shakespeare explained. "We hope to hire somebody by the end of August."
The commission is reportedly weighing three options for the sizes of the turbines, with 225, 600 and 900 kilowatts being considered, according to the news source.
Elsewhere in the state, in Charlestown, a $30 million Wind Technology Testing Center has been constructed as a means of reviewing the efficiency, durability and other qualities of wind turbine blades, the Globe reported.
