California is attempting to expand its renewable energy portfolio by building new transmission lines, according to Governor Jerry Brown.
California has made major strides in becoming more energy efficient and is now attempting to improve upon its efforts, as Brown recently signed an agreement with U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to expand utility-scale renewable energy projects in the state.
"California has made tremendous progress in permitting renewable projects and now we need to make sure the transmission lines that deliver this clean energy are built as quickly as possible," Brown said.
The revised agreement between Brown and Salazar includes electricity transmission projects and invites more state authorities into future projects.
The pact will create more jobs in California and has already sped up the approval process for more than a dozen solar projects and 130 other green energy projects, according to the governor's office.
In other West Coast renewable energy news, Google recently announced a partnership with the U.S. government to produce green energy from a volcano in Oregon, The Associated Press reported.
