Auto magazine Top Gear recently named the 2012 Fisker Karma plug-in vehicle the "Luxury Car of the Year" and overall "Car of the Year."
The vehicle is a car that would make environmentalists and ecologists proud. The many features of the green energy vehicle include seat covers that are made of recycled plastic, seat foam made from soybean fiber and recycled suede that is made into the car's roof liner, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"It works well, it looks good and it must be a genuinely exciting thing to own," BBC Top Gear magazine editor Charlie Turner said. "It’s the top-of-the-line spec that features no leather, just textiles and reclaimed wood. And it’s more convincing than it sounds, managing to look, feel and smell premium without any cow peel in it at all."
The car also features an electric motor that is powered by a 600-pound lithium battery pack, which can power the vehicle to run on only electric energy for 50 miles, the Tribune reported. The car company has not received an EPA mileage rating yet, but expects to have the car graded at 67 miles per gallon.
Prospective car buyers will have to pay a hefty price for the vehicle, considering the Karma ranges from $95,900 to $108,900. Still, consumers who are more interested in saving the planet than conserving their funds may soon be securing car financing or an auto loan to acquire the luxury vehicle.
