In a sign that it is dedicated to the use of green energy across the country, search engine giant Google recently announced it will invest $280 million in order to help homeowners put solar panels on their roofs.
The Associated Press reports that the investment will enable SolarCity to offer the panels to customers at no charge up front, with customers agreeing to pay a certain set fee for the power acquired through the panels.
"It allows us to put our capital to work in a way that is very important to the founders and to Google, and we found a good business model to support," Joel Conkling with Google's Green Business Operations told the news source prior to the company's announcement.
According to the news source, the money being spent for solar panels represents Google's seventh investment in green energy, with the total exceeding $680 million.
One of the other major green energy that Google has made was $100 million for the Shepherds Flat wind farm currently under construction in Oregon. The farm will reportedly be the largest in the world, according to Reuters.
