The Fourth Annual National Clean Energy Summit, organized by the Center for American Progress and the Clean Energy Project, recently took place in Las Vegas.
The summit brought green energy industry professionals together with leading thinkers, political leaders and other policy makers to consider strategies for how to make the United States a global leader in the $2 trillion international renewable energy sector.
In his opening remarks, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, announced the state will build the nation's first hybrid geothermal and solar power plant.
Summit attendees examined how green energy jobs might boost the troubled U.S. economy, particularly in the West. The summit agenda included a session on western clean energy efforts, featuring a panel of governors from Nevada, California and Washington. The planned hybrid plant in Nevada represents a good start, as it will create an estimated 150 jobs, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
The Clean Energy Summit occurred shortly after the National Geothermal Summit was held in Reno, Nevada. The state's reserves of geothermal power make it a green energy hotspot, with construction planned on more than 80 geothermal plants, according to KTVN, Reno's CBS affiliate.
