A wind farm planned for Cambria County, Pennsylvania, is expected to provide close to 100 temporary jobs in construction and up to five permanent positions.
The wind farm will be called the "Patton Project" and will be built in Elder, West Carroll and East Carroll townships in Pennsylvania on 2,700 acres of land, local news source WJAC reported.
The project will provide renewable energy to 9,000 local homes and will lower the cost of energy in the area.
"Taking out coal-burning power plants that are known to cause a lot of problems - from acid rain to asthma (and other) health problems (is) a step for Pennsylvania and specifically the region," Dan Lagiovane, a renewable energy expert, said to the source.
According to WJAC, the project began at St. Francis University with researchers conducting studies and finding that the Patton area was acceptable for a wind farm. The farm is expected to be completed and operating by the end of 2012.
Pennsylvania's wind power industry has increased drastically over the past several years, with seven wind farm projects completed in three years and five green energy projects under construction, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
