In an effort to acquire 25 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2025, the U.S. Army has enlisted the help of a newly-created task force that will seek out the best renewable energy providers in the private sector, Green Biz reports.
According to the news source, the Energy Initiatives Office Task Force will begin operations on September 15, forming relations with various private energy companies while investigating what green power could best be utilized by the Army's large amount of land.
"Through that office we intend to work very hard with the private sector," Army Secretary John M. McHugh told reporters on Wednesday, August 10. "It will serve as a one-stop shop to allow the private sector to come and find opportunities for partnership in a variety of renewable energy and alternative energy programs."
According to United Press International, the investment calls for about $7.1 billion dollars to be spent in the next 10 years. The task force will provide resources and information to the military that will help develop massive renewable energy projects for Army activity.
