Vermilion County, Illinois board members recently voted to approve the first wind farm project application in the county, which could substantially aid the region's push towards green energy.
According to the Danville Commercial News, committee members went over a list of requirements that had been complied with, including working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the state's Department of Natural Resources.
Former Danville alderman Bob Iverson explained to the committee that while the project had some potential issues, such questions are typical for energy initiatives of all kinds. He also stressed that Invenergy, which plans to construct the wind farm, has done everything possible to quell potential concerns about the project.
"There are going to be unknowns going into this," Iverson said. "The company has answered those to the best of their ability."
The 214-megawatt project is expected to feature as many as 134 turbines, the news source said.
According to the Champaign/Urbana News-Gazette, the final approval for the project needs to come from the full county board, which could vote on it next week.
