GreenCar Hawaii, which is the first car sharing company in Hawaii, recently launched its car sharing service at the DoubleTree by Hilton Alana Waikiki Hotel.
The company is also the first of its kind that serves the travel and tourism markets nationwide. It provided four electric Nissan Leaf vehicles and two charging stations at the hotel that are available to customers.
"Through GreenCar Hawaii, we are making another contribution to Hawaii's clean energy goal and providing our guests with a simple and convenient alternative to traditional car rental," said Tom Herman, general manager of the DoubleTree by Hilton Alana Waikiki. "Our guests, patrons and the community now have access to on-demand mobility by hour directly from the hotel and at the same time help us support our global brand's sustainability initiatives."
The Nissan Leaf can be rented by customers for $15 per hour or $95 per day. Electric vehicle owners who aren't using GreenCar Hawaii's new service can charge at the electric stations for a $5 fee.
GreenCar is working on securing other hotels and properties to make its services available.
According to Popular Mechanics, the Nissan Leaf charges up to 80 percent power in a half-hour.
